If a CT Cardiac Calcium Scoring detects a certain amount of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries, a referring provider may refer a patient for Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA), a non-invasive diagnostic CT scan that takes detailed images of the coronary arteries and provides highly detailed data on the structure (the lumen) of the coronary artery. This exam is typically used to detect narrowed or blocked coronary arteries, which can cause chest pain or a heart attack.
