What are the benefits of Prostate MRI?

Up until recently, our Prostate imaging program has been critical in guiding the urologist community with the “cognitive” targeting of abnormal lesions and their ultrasound-guided Prostate biopsies. Over the last 5 years, the technology needed to “fuse” MR images with real-time ultrasound has set a new standard in accurately diagnosing patients with lesions that are too small or too difficult to access via traditional biopsy techniques. In our constant effort to stay at the forefront of radiology practices, we are pleased to announce that LHR has made the significant investment to add this unique ability to our clinical offerings, making our network the only outpatient non-hospital provider to offer this service in the New York City region.

With this information, physicians can:

• Precisely locate clinically-significant tumors within the prostate gland.

• Measure the extent of a tumor, or how far it has spread.

• Estimate Gleason score, which can help to predict how quickly a tumor will grow.

• Perform targeted biopsy, which requires fewer needles and results in higher cancer yields than conventional blind biopsy.
