What Is Calcium Scoring?
Calcium scoring is a safe and painless procedure performed with a CT Scanner that takes multiple pictures of the moving heart. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes. A special computer program analyzes the images and determines the presence and amount of calcium.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women. Calcium scoring can accurately detect the presence of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries and assess the subsequent risk of a heart attack. With this information, your doctor will be able to recommend the appropriate treatment, including lifestyle changes, certain medications you may need to start, and/or additional testing.
